help with install windows 10

I wiped my hard drive for reasons. I downloaded the windows 10 iso onto a USB and installed it to my HDD. After it got done installing even if I boot from the HDD it boots up the windows setup. I solved this by taking out the USB but now when I try to boot it says that I have to select proper boot device. everything in the boot order is fine. I am also interested in trying to get windows 7 but I don't know how to do so for free.

For the windows 10 issues, boot from usb installation drive and try a repair of windows 10.
For windows 7, you need to buy it if you don't have a valid license. You might be able to buy it from amazon.com or newegg.com

1. If, upon boot up, it is still asking you for the correct boot device, you did something wrong with the install.
Try it again.

2. There is no 'free' Windows 7.

UPDATE: the windows 10 files ARE installed like I said but now when I take USB out it says select proper boot device to continue.

it is the only thing I am able to boot from beside windows boot manager and I have the HDD selected

Have you tried multiple times? I had some strange issues with the creators update that ultimately lead to a reinstall. It went fine after that. It can't hurt to reinstall even though it's a pain.
