Help with installation and opening files

Hi my friend has a desktop computer,in which Im trying to help her fix.It had windows 8 on it. The computer was sent to a repair guy,in which was returned to her with windows 7 on it,she didn't ask for this. But also weitrd things are happening and she now cant do much with it. Everytime she trys to open a program a dialogue box comes up.asking if she wants to run the program,but when she clicks yes on it,it just keeps repeateatably coming up.We cant do a system restore or repair,and it doesn't have any backu[p on it.We want to put windows 8 back on it,but it wont let us,thankyou Lucie

Sounds like you had a bait and switch or even just total screwup there. Have your friend confirm that that is actually the computer sent, because there's a high chance it's not even the same model!

If it indeed isn't the same model or all your files are missing, call the "repair guy" and ask for an explanation. If the guy skipped town or did something outside the contract, your only real option might be legal action.


That said, if the disk doesn't have your files on it, go to the microsoft website and download the Windows 8.1 Media Creation Tool. You'll be able to install Windows 8 using a USB stick, however if the computer is not the same one you sent, there will be no product key in the BIOS and you will be unable to activate the install without purchasing a new license.
