I was having trouble figuring out what the max amount of ram I can have in my system. I can't find a lot of info on this motherboard, but I see other models of this computer that have up to 32gb of ram. This computer is from Lenovo and was part of a series with the model number K450. The one I have has an i5-4460 & 8gb and it came with a GT 720 gpu installed. I thought I saw something when purchasing a while back that said 12gb max, but when I try to research now I see so many different models with up to 32gb and they all seem to use the same motherboard.

I have some photos I took while running CPU-Z. Is it going to make a big difference If I buy a single stick of 4gb or 8gb vs 2gbx2 or 4gbx2 dual channel? The price is about 15% more to get 2 sticks instead of 1. I would be fine going with 12gb, but I really wanted to upgrade to 16gb if possible. Does the timing difference between the current and new ram matter? What I have is 11,11,11,28 and I see some upgrade options that are different. They appear to be higher models with speeds of 8.8.8.24 or 9.9.9.24

Solution
You have 4 RAM slots. It supports 32GB PC3-12800.
You can pick up 2x8GB's now and 2x8GB's later. Run the RAM in pairs so you gain the dual channel performance benefit.
It looks like you have 2x4GB now. You *might* get away with picking up another 2x4GB of the exact same model RAM and it working fine but better to replace those with 2x8GB sticks so you can upgrade to 32GB in the future.

Edit - If you're really lucky you may be able to just ADD 2x8GB and it still work fine in dual channel mode. If that works you have 24GB's - a solid upgrade.

thanks. going to order this and see how it works. It's the only one I can find with the same timing.

I wouldn't mind adding more, but I can use the difference in cost between 8 / 16gb to put towards another SSD which I also need. I think I might only use this CPU for the next 12-18 months and then upgrade to whatever is the best / current option for gaming, but this will require all new ram.
