Good day all,

My new q6600 is now in hand...cant beat a quad for $290cnd!

Anyway now I need a motherboard for it and need some help deciding....

Here is my situation:

I will be running 2 systems:

E6400 and the Q6600

I HAD though the Q6600 was going to go be my server machine but with all the extra computer power I may want it on my workstation now... :bounce:

By current mb is an EVGA 680i 1st gen that I've had no problems with other than only getting stereo audio from the digital audio port...

I'm a light gamer, very light now, and if I do OC, is is very light and just to learn the tricks. I do quick a bit of picture and video editing along with video conversion/muxing/demuxing etc and have a single video card with no plans for sli/xfire.

On the server side I run Windoze Server 2k3 w/Exchange 2K7 but am looking to move to Windoze 2k8 beta for testing purposes.

This will be the last hardware upgrade for a LONG time :)

So I guess I have two questions now... :sol:

1. Which cpu would you use for the server and which for the workstation?

2. For my second motherboard, based on the above info I think I'm looking at the following:

- Intel 975XBX2KR, nice looking board and has a serial port which I will uses.
- Intel DP35DPM
- Asus P5K

I'm trying to keep the choices as inexpensive as possible. I'll be running DDR2 so I don't need a higher end board with DDR3 support. One thing I do not like about the ASUS is that it only has s/p dif audio out and no toslink which I already have cables for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Looking to keep costs down... the Asus is $212cnd, 975 is $200 and the DP35 runs at $145 or something...so I'd prefer not to exceed the Asus one if I can...
