Hello dear community,

watching reviews about the MSI R9 390X, the reviewers said that the MSI R9 390X card obstructs the adjacent PCI-E port for crossfire configuration (no MOBO specified). Is there a motherboard with two PCI-E x16 3.0 separated enough, or i have to use a PCI extender cable.

Thanks in advance for you kind attention

If a board only has single spacing between the slots it can be an issue with larger coolers. Most "gaming" style motherboards use double spacing between the first twp pcie slots to accommodate larger gpu coolers. Here is an example of the double spaced slots:

As far as I know, as long as the motherboard you are looking at supports crossfire in its specs, then there will be a enough space and the appropriate slots for it. Sometimes the adjacent pcie slot on a motherboard is not the one that is meant to be used for crossfire and there will be another one in the right place.

I think your best bet is to download the manuals for a few boards you are interested in and then look up how they implement CF. should take very long. Having the cards sandwiched is not ideal.

Never done CF so can't help more but recycle an old joke about boat owners.

What is the happiest day in a multi-GPU owners life?

The day he sells both cards and buys one.
