Help With Motherboard

Hey guys,
Im fairly new to how cpu compatibility works and i just wanted some help to know whether the cpu im going to buy will work with my motherboard.
The mother board is a gigabyte h55m-d2h and the cpu is an i5 6600k. (The bios is some award software thingo)
Any sort of help would be very useful.

Hello Nick,

your motherboard GIGABYTE H55M-D2H will not support an i5-6600k as there is huge generation gap........... i5-6600k is 6th generation processor which will only supported by a LGA 1151 socket type (i.e. the H110, B150, Q150, H170, Q170,Z170 chipset motherboards)

your motherboard is H55 chipset. you can see the supported cpu list here:

for information socket and chipset with supported cpus:

*LGA 1151 (H110, B150, Q150, H170, Q170,Z170 etc. CHIPSET MOBO) = intel 6th gen cpus ex.core 6000 series (like i5 6600k)
*LGA 1150 ( H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H87 and Z87 etc. CHIPSET MOBO) = intel 4th gen cpus ex. core 4000 series & 5th gen also
*LGA 1155 (B65, H61, Q67, H67, P67 and Z68, B75, Q75, Q77, H77, Z75, z77) = INTEL 3rd gen cpus ex. core 3000 series


*LGA 1156 - released over 6 yrs ago for the 1st line of core cpus. (H55, H57, P55, and Q57 chipset mobo) = for 1st gen core cpus.
