This is my pure gaming build. I'll have it set up in a spare room and only use it when I'm playing games. When not in use, I'm powering it down. I'd like to make the build as future proof as possible since I'm planning on Crossfire 6950's later (a year or two). If you see anything wrong or where I could improve with my build, please, help me out. Thanks for looking.
Approximate Purchase Date: Week or so
Budget Range: ~$1100
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming.
Parts Not Required: Just need the PC. Nothing else.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, unless there's a big difference.
Country of Origin: USA
Parts Preferences: Whatever's Good.
Overclocking: Yes (this will be my first time)
SLI or Crossfire: Crossfire in the future
Monitor Resolution: 1920x1200
Additional Comments:
Case: Antec 900 $99.99 +15.99 Shipping
Reason I went with it was pretty simple. It's a great case, and I wanted plenty of room. This will fit two 6950's in it right?
Mobo: ASRock P67 Extreme 4 LGA1155 $159.99 + $8.50 Shipping
I went with it because people say it's a very easy OC mobo. I've never done any OC'ing so I wanted it to be as easy as possible.
CPU: Intel i5-2500K 3.3ghz $224.99
Again, heard this was the best at OC'ing. Easy and powerful for gaming.
CPU Heatsink: Cool Master Hyper 212 $34.99 +7.56 Shipping
This is one area I honestly have no idea. I heard it was a good one, better suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 6950 2GB $279.99 + $8.50 Shipping (also has a $30 MIR)
I want to unlock it to a full Radeon HD 6970.
RAM: GSkillz Ripjaws 8GB 1600 DDR3 $99.99
My idea was to future proof my system as much as I could. Buy 8GB of ram now so I don't have to upgrade later if I only get 4GB.
PSU: Corsair HX Series 750W $139.99 + $5.99 Shipping (Also a $10 MIR)
This was another future proofing idea. Some point down the road I want to Crossfire two 6950's and this PSU gives me the ability to do just that. Also while it's rated at a Silver 80plus certification, it's actually a 90% efficient PSU. Figure, spend a little more now. Save down the road.
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200rpm $64.99
Heard it was the best or one of the best non-SSD hard drives out there.
DVD: Liteon DVD Burner $20.99
Mainly picked it because of free shipping and tons of good reviews. I'll only even use my DVD player to load windows and games on it.
Toss in some Arctic Silver Compound and my grand total before shipping and MIR's (which I figure will about break even) is $1,132.89.
