Help with my first computer build

Hi everyone, I decided that I needed to build my own computer because I finally realized pre built ones are pretty terrible in comparison and a waste of money so these are the parts I've come up with.

Mother board: ASRock Z77 Extreme3 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor: Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core Desktop Processor

Memory: Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Optical: ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Case: Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, come with Five Fans, window side panel, top HDD dock

Operating System: windows 8

Video Card: GeForce Nvidia 550 Ti

PSU: Corsair 430 watt

I'm basically double checking to see if anyone with a lot more experience than myself can tell me for sure that all of these components will work right with each other or possibly have a suggestion for me to alter it without upping the price. Thank you in advance for any and all help

How to alter it? Change out the motherboard to a H77 to save some money, and get a better GPU. I would go with the Radeon HD7770.

You also definitely do not need to spring for the 16GB of RAM. 8 should be fine.

I was planning on trying to play games like guild wars 2 or skyrim do you think 8 is definitely good to handle that kind of stuff?

Yeah 8 is fine for gaming. That mobo has 4 ram slots so in 2 or 3 years if you need more then buy another set then. I agree with a 7770. If you tell us your budget/preferred store we may be able to pick out something better.

Games won't even use 8GB of RAM. Spend the money on the graphics card.

And I agree, drop to a B75 or H77 board with an i3. Only reason to use a Z series board is for overclocking and the i3's can't overclock anyway.

I bet you can knock $40 off the board and $20 off the RAM which leaves $60. That should at least get you up to the 650 Ti or a bargain basement Radeon 7850. I wouldn't go less than 7770 or 650 Ti for a gaming system right now.

Thanks for your feedback this is exactly what I was looking for I wish I hadn't already bought the card it was on sale at best buy for 130$ and I thought it could handle most games I wanted to play.

Is it returnable (I hope)? It will play all those games, just at lower resolutions.

Thanks again for your help it knocked my cost way down but do you think my current card will be able to run games on mid or high like guild wars 2.

I really see your point on the 650 and I am convinced enough to return it since i just took about 70 dollars off with those two changes to the build I made and I will have to wait on the parts anyway so why not order a card to.

550 Ti will be fine. If you are stuck with it, it will play most games.

If you can return the 550 Ti for a 650 Ti (make sure it is a Ti ) then you'll be a lot happier for newer games and higher resolutions. Newegg has a 650 Ti 2GB with free Assasins Creed 3 for $160 with a $20 Mail-in making it $140.

I would recommend the jump to a 7850 over the 650Ti.
