Last night I was using my lenovo p580 ideapad and it worked fine. About an hour later I went back on it and noticed the keyboard doesnt work anymore. I had to use the on screen keyboard to log into my laptop (password). When I plug an external keyboard, it works fine. Could I have turned it off by accident? All the drivers seem to be up to date. Could there be a virus that turns it off?? I,ve been googling it all morning with no avail.

I'm assuming you've restarted the machine. Try taking the keyboard out and making sure it's still connected firmly.

My thinking is, if it was fine and fully operational and you left it that way, only to return with it malfunctioning... either a hardware failure has occurred or a third party messed with the laptop. Had anyone gotten on the laptop in the time you were away?

Also, have you tried system restoring to a previous point? Maybe a couple days ago?

In the event you need to replace the keyboard of your laptop,

I tried system restore and it didn't work. no one else has touched my laptop. The only other thing I can think of is a virus. I ran all my mal ware and anti virus with nothing coming up. I guess I can try a full reinstall of windows and all my drivers, but hope I dont have too. Can't find anything about this on any site. I really dont want to have to buy a new keyboard
