Hello, I ordered a 512 64X64 mb ram chip.

I have on DIMM slot with a 512 MB already installed.

I have a DUAL CHANNEL mode support on my motherboard, with the two Dualchannel slots.

can I use the Dual channel slot as a DIMM slot?

How can I find out what size my memory is?

Can I put one 64X32 chip into the dual channel slot, and put a 64X64 into the regular DIMM slot and not have complications?
(That would leave the other Dual channel slot unused)

My MOBO has one regular DIMM slot and 2 dualchannel-designated slots. I am unsure

Can I use one 64 X32 chip in one slot and a 64X64 chip in another slot if it's not dual channel?

Do the memory sizes matter and can they conflict? one is 64X64, I can't tell what my other one is

THe memory speeds are equal to eachother. pc3200

As long as the pin count is the same... otherwise it doesn't matter

Couple things you should know about memory... matching is best. If you have two sticks with differing memory speed... the total memory will run at the lowest speed of the two (or more) sticks.

Secondly... to really harness the goodness of that motherboard of yours... you would like to run your memory in dual channel mode... to do so you match two sticks of ram... identical sizes... speeds... timings etc.

But I don't believe that to be your case.

A Dimm refers to the memory stick... the dual channel slots are just for you to know where to put your matched dimms of ram if you wish to use that mode. Here a dimm... there a dimm... everywhere memory.

Hope that helped a bit. :)

You should have no issues with that memory. You might be able to run dual channel, but you might not either.Hard to say these days as a lot of boardss will support dual channel with different manufacturers as long as basic memory is the same speed.(ie;pc3200)But it is best to run a matched pair of sticks to be sure. But to answer your 1st question, yes you can put it in aand it should see it no probs.Goodluck.

What I understand from these helpful replies...(thanks)

The Dual channel slots can be used as a regular slot, they don't have to be dual channel.

P.S. What does the 64X32 or 64X64 mean?

Yes, probably (in the future it helps us out if you list the model numbers of the various items you're discussing (e.g. motherboard, RAM DIMM)).

The numbers refer to the organization of the DIMM. You may want to take a look at the forum sticky FAQ.
