Hi Guys-

I need help with my Rig, I am looking to upgrade a couple of components but I thought I should ask you guys for help.

My current setup-

Intel i7 4770K
MSI GTX970 (4GB)
12GB RAM (Hyper X 1600)
750W PSU (Corsair bronze)
Z97P-D3
My Tower is a Corsair Spec-03 Red
Some crap HDD I have had for donkeys that I will be changing to SSD.

I want an SLI compatible board (as I want to have 2 970's running) but ideally I don't want to change CPUs (as this one is really good), any good recommendations? I can't seem to find a seller for an SLI board, as the Bitcoin miners have scooped them all up.

However if this is a dead end, what CPU, motherboard should I upgrade to? I can't seem to find a good article on CPU's.

P.s I have already been on PC Parts Picker. (still can make my mind up)

Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, after looking around the best bet for finding an SLI Z97 motherboard would be eBay. Ya they’re used but pick a reputable seller with high ratings and that accepts returns.

If I were you I would stay away from SLI. It’s still not scalable in terms of performance meaning 2 970’s does not equal twice the power of 1 970. I would try to invest in a GTX 1080 as that blows away a 970 SLI setup and you’ll have way more VRAM. SLI does not combine VRAM meaning the 4GB you have per 970 does not equal 8. It only uses 4GB.

I know you’re thinking that prices are inflated at the moment but prices will level out back to normal soon (fingers crossed). I would wait for prices to drop or for newer cards to come out. Gaming on a single, powerful...

To wrap things up your CPU is definitely not a dead end. With a mild overclock you would have no problem gaming with it for the next few years. Save your money and upgrade to a powerful card like the 1080 or the upcoming Volta lineup from Nvidia.

Solution
Skip the SLI. I'd upgrade to nothing less than a 1080 and call it a day.

I had a 4690K and a 970 FTW. This was 10 loooooooooooong months ago that I started to look into upgrading my PC. Finally last month I purchased the hardware my VR gaming area. I upgraded to the EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid.

I went from a EVGA 500W 80+ PSU to a Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold G Series PSU.
