I just built a computer for the first time for a little bit of gaming. My question is when I play pretty much any game every couple of minutes my computer will want to stutter or skip. Hopefully you guys know what I mean by that but I can't get it to stop. Can anyone help me out and get it to stop? Its annoying. My specs are:

Intel i5-3470k
8GB of Ram
GTX 650TI

I usually play on the lowest resolution possible. I played with the settings and it doesn't seem to matter if I play on low or high settings it still seems to happen. Yes I have the latest graphics drivers installed. And sorry bout that. Yea I ment the 3570k.

That video card is going to give you occasional choppy gaming performance.

You're average fps may be above 30 fps at 1080p for most titles, but you're going to get minimum fps dropping below that quite often. This is when you'll see the choppy or stuttering action.

The 650 Ti is a great, affordable multi-purpose card, but it does not provide the best performance with games. Turning off Anti-Aliasing might allow you to recover about 25-30% performance, but your minimum framerates are still going to be low - from a gaming standpoint - with that card:

That's unfortunate as they're the simplest.

Have you always had this issue since building or is it recent?

When you say latest drivers is it the latest complete drivers or latest beta drivers? Beta drivers can cause issues, double check you dont have them installed.

I would try reseating the GPU and check all connections, also make sure the power is connected to the GPU too.

Well thats the thing like it says i'm getting 60 fps. Every once in awhile it will drop down to 55 or 56 fps for a second or two but then goes back up. It doesn't drop when it's choppy either.

Yea I had it before I installed the graphics card. I thought it was just cause of the crappy onboard graphics and that when I bought the new card it wouldn't do it anymore but it still does. The drivers I installed are not the beta. I do have my CPU OC'ed to 4.2. I don't know if that would make a difference. My computer doesn't do it when I am doing anything else such as surfing the internet or watching a movie. Only when I play a game.

The OC could be the cause of the problem. If you encountered it before the addition of the GPU then that pretty much rules it out.

Did you do any stress testing after OC'ing the CPU?

What cooler are you using? If it's the stock one i wouldn't expect anything stable over 4ghz, same for any poor coolers.

I think this is the likely culprit. Most likely shows up in games as that will stress the CPU more than web browsing or watching videos.

So are you playing at 800x600?

No didn't do any stress testing. I'm using the stock cooler and when I'm playing my games the temp never gets above 65c.

No the lowest the games will let me go is like 1024x768 I think. I know its 1024 something.

I would de clock your CPU back to stock speeds and see if that makes a difference. If it does, take your OC back up slowly and run Prime95 to stress test it before each new clock.
