Hi I'm new to the hole pc world but iv learnt a lot in the last month , I'm pretty sure that given all the components I could put the thing together iv seen many videos and read a lot of threads , but if I do decide to build my own pc, which I would prefer since iv been told to do it countless times I'm not sure how to install an op (I'd like windows 8) I have basic pc knowledge but I wouldn't no where to start or where to go after I have installed windows ... Is there other things to do then just install windows ? And where would the best place to learn be?..

Long post but thanks

Solution
1. Define Purpose of Build
2. Research components that meet the purpose
3. Select parts
4. Confirm compatibility of selected parts
5. Order/Buy
6. Assemble
7. Boot (Optionally update BIOS and firmwares of hardware)
8. Install operating system
9. Update operating system, drivers, and common software
10. Enjoy

Sounds like you have been asking around regarding steps 1-4.

Instructions for step 6 can be found on YouTube (how to assemble a computer).

Step 7 would just be a quick test to see if all your hardware is working. You can find instructions for updating the BIOS on the motherboard manufacturer's website, but this is optional.

Operating system installation is quite simple these days. If you purchase an OS, you just put the disk...
If you have a Windows CD, just plop it in and run the setup. It's really simple, just follow the on screen directions, nothing really else to say about that. Make sure your boot drive is set in the bios (which you can access by pressing delete multiple times when starting the computer) Make sure the CD drive is set to priority.

If you don't have a CD Drive, you need to format a USB Flash Drive and put Windows on it from another computer with a CD Drive.

Here is a guide on how to format the flash drive.

Good Luck!

Operating system installation is quite simple these days. If you purchase an OS, you just put the disk in the drive and set your boot order to try to boot from the optical drive first. Follow the on-screen setup instructions. Once you get into your operating system you will want to update it with the latest version, mostly to get all the security and bug fixes.

You'll also need to install drivers for your various hardware components, your motherboard and video card will generally come with discs, however, it is best to download the latest from the manufacturer's website once again.

Then it is down to installing the software you wanted the computer for in the first place.
