Hey guys,

I am needing to build my wife a new computer with the option of gaming and regular use. We have a budget of 400 to 500 dollars and need everything but a monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard. I am not up to date on current products so the help would be appreciated.

And do not need Windows

Well, nothing insane. Star wars the old republic, Wow, Rust, Dayz, Sim city (the new one) and maybe ever quest next.

An OS is going to cost ~ $100, $30-$50 for a case, probably $50-$75 for a PSU, $60 for a HDD, $20 for an optical drive, ~ $75-$100 for 8 GB RAM, unless you only want 4 GB, even then it'll be $50-$60, and we are not even including the cost of a CPU, motherboard and GPU yet. So even without those, we are already up to $315-$405.

This one is at the upper limit of your new budget, but not a bad little machine.

New update. A friend is going to donate me a free 7790 Radeon ghost series. Can we build around that? 400ish?

Here's a nice little inexpensive Intel system.

Solution
I put the i3 in there strictly to keep the price down. If the budget permits I would suggest stepping up to an i5 for the best overall experience.
