I have a friendwho is building my son a gaming PC for Christmas and needed some advice.

I am purchasing a 40" 4K display also and wanted to know what a recommended GPU would be for the best performance. Am I better off going with a GTX 980 either in SLI or 3-Way SLI, or shoud I go with a single care like a GTX Titan? My friend said that both would be great options.

I just want the best performance for my son so he doesn't have to upgrade for a while.

Yeah, that will be beast! Dual 980Ti's would be perfect. I put this little thing together for fun. Those are the Gpus that I would recommend. Of course you could pick out whatever case you wanted etc.

Also that build ends up around 3500 bucks, and contains the same or equivalent parts that you have already chosen. Good luck on the build!
Do You have a budget? If around 1000 bucks for graphics cards is you budget, you could probably get 3 GTX 970's for a little more than that. Only problem with that is the 3.5 GB of VRAM if your running 4K. I would recommend a single GTX 980 Ti for around 650 bucks, then add another 980 Ti a little later. Or you could also get dual GTX 980's. They would all work well. Good luck!

A Titan X costs around 1,000 bucks, so that's why I assumed that is the price you are willing to spend on a Graphics Card. Also, do you have the other parts picked out? If so, could you tell me? If not I can create a Part list.
