I recently built a new pc and when booting, the monitor is not displaying anything. I tried pulling my video card and reboot, but still the black screen with hdmi. I am running a MSI Z390M Gaming Edge mobo, cpu is Intel i5 8600k. Can anyone suggest possible causes before I start tearing the pc apart.

Is the video card uninstalled right now? You said you had pulled it and rebooted. The 8600k does not have an iGPU.
Yep, I pulled it out and tried to reboot but same issue, no display using HMDI cable. I forgot to mention that the mobo comes on and the mystic light on it works. Additionally, all fans come on. I have two sticks of ram in it.

I'm not really familiar on iGPU. Last time I built a pc was yearsss ago.

And I had the mobo wrong, its MSI MPG Z390M Gaming Edge AC

Okay. The 8600k (and all other -k intel CPUs) does not have integrated graphics, meaning nothing will be displayed unless you have a dedicated GPU installed and the video cable is connected to its output rather than the motherboard's.

Thanks for explaining:) Ok so with my video card installed, I still get no display. Someone mentioned I may need to boot with an old vga cord/monitor. I'm really lost as what to do next:(
