Looking at your system, and looking at your old one, my thoughts would be this:

At the end of July get the Q6600 and a P35 board. I would go with Windows Vista and the HD 2900XT, but that's just me. If you go XP, keep the nVidia card. If you do choose Vista, get a 64-bit version.

I can't speak on the other components, other then hard drives, in which case, look for a 500GB one, unless you're cannibalizing the old one. I should also note caution should be taken when looking at power supplies. Make sure the one you're getting is of decent quality, and can give you the power you need for the CPU and video card. A good site would be:

With the system set up well, when you find it's getting a bit underpowered, you'll have plenty of options for an upgrade. Whether it's the CPU or video card, you'll be in good shape.

The E6850 is a pre-overclocked version of the E6600.
Overclocking is extremely simple, but if u dont want to, then get the E6850 if they are the same price.

P35 / P965 Asus Commando

I would stay away from both of those.
You dont need DDR3, so the P35 is a waste of money. Its only good for overclocking.

I would get the 650i/680i SLi motherboards. They are just like P965, but give better performance and allow for better RAM and of course SLi.

Corsair XMS2 2GB PC6400

No no no.

If u bought them both for 300$, then consider taking the 8800 GTS 640 back. The 2900XT is slightly better in most games (but i doubt for very long). Seems weird that u would be able to buy them both for the exact same ammount of money, or that the 2900XT would cost over 100$ less than it is supposed to.

Aero Cool Turbine 550 or SILVERSTONE OP650

Out of those the Silverstone is of course the best. I reccomend it.
It's actually a little bit better than the PSU I was going to reccomend.
Good one.

Win XP SP2 / Win Vista

Why not just get both? You don't have to buy them.
