Hello maybe one of you helpful guys could help me out. I just bought an Asus VG279Q and its advertised to have 144hz refresh rate but for some reason I can not find out how to enable it. I can only get it to go up to 120hz. The monitor does have freesync and right now I dont have a GPU since I had to RMA it do I need a GPU in the system to actually get the 144hz? I know I wont be able to use the freesync but i know i should have issue being able to get the monitor to 144hz.

Solution
The manual says 120Hz maximum for Hdmi. 144Hz requires DVI or Displayport but for simplicity Displayport is dominantly used now on GPUs today. Also those other features greyed out aren't supported over Hdmi.

Nvidia has recently released a driver making it possible for their graphics cards to operate with Freesync if you went with them. Monitor support is limited. Your monitor might be in the list of supported monitors, not sure.

Or get an Amd card.
I'm using HDMI. I'm using my motherboards display out puts. Also in my monitors OSD a lot of setting that I should be able to access are grayed out. could this be due to lack of a GPU? If it is then that could possibly be the issue. I just wanna see what 144hz feels like

Thanks @boju yeah my monitor isn't listed I bought it the day before they announced the g sync compatible thing haha. I'm sure it will work though because it's the same monitor as the vg278q this just has an IPS panel
