(third attempt!!! my firefox just crashed twice when sending the post!!!)

Hi,

I am thinking on assembling a new pc. I do not care about games, video, etc... I use the computer for programming in a package call SAS and usually my databases are between 1gb and 5gb. My codding is mostly database management and manipulation with some statistical/mathematical calculation.

My current pc is a 3.2ghz, 2gb ram and a d945gtp board. runs fine but a bit slow when dealing with databases.

I need you advice in a few things:
1) which cpu E8500 or q6600?
2) DDR3 or DDR2 will it matters?
3) 2x500gb in raid0 or 1tb?
4) any advice on the board?

Thanks in advance.

I don't pretend to understand all of it, but this seemed interesting:

Based on that you would want a Q6600. If you can save enough elsewhere a Q9550.

The memory is not important. You should have 4GB though, and you might as well have tight timings:

A WD 650GB would be faster:

You just need a solid dependable chipset. P45 would do:
