Hello Fellow Tom's Hardware members. I'm new here so go easy on my tigers 😉.

A few months ago I was really reading a lot on how to over clock, In general and then moved on to spend many hours on how to over clock something that is similar to my pc. Today I have made a wise choice of joining here for help!

My Rig as is;

CPU : Q6600 B3
CPU Cooler: Tuniq Tower 120
With AS5
Motherbored : Asus P5k - Premium Wifi
RAM: Crucial Ballistics Pc8500 1066Mhz [4Dims X1Gb]
GPU Cooling: Thermalright Hr rev A
Graphics Card: BFG 8800GT OC2
Power Supply : Hiper 680W
Case : Antec 900
HDD1 Windows : 320GB samsung
HDD2 WDC 500Gb
HDD3 Samsung 120Gb
[I have orderd two WD X 150Gb
1 CD drive
1 Floppy Drive
1 card reader

^^ I only said all of that so you can get an idea of my power consumption.

My overclocking setting in the Bios >> Advance view

After typing all that on to my laptop from my desktop which took about 10 or so mins my temps are in the bios

CPU Temp [36C / 96.5F]
MB Temp [39C / 102]

Load temp after 5mins @ all cores 100% : 43 with speedfan.

Now to my questions, Because MY FSB is 354 which gives me a FSB 1416Mhz, If I go any higher this pushes my 4 options for my RAM of around 1066, When ever I go maybe 40Mhz over with my ram I get lockups, BSOD's etc etc.. I have 4 dims.

So how can I clock my CPU without clocking my ram? I would really love a 1:1 ratio but there is no way in hell that ram will clock to 1416Mhz from 1066.

Is it true 4 dims are bad to clock with?

How can I clock my CPU higher taking my ram up so that is stable too?

Is there any tweaks I could maybe take?

Thanks in advance guys!

I cant seem to edit it, I dont have premission.

Is it true that 4 dims are bad for over clocking

Any more info you need please ask

Your ram might need more voltage then stock but thats not the issue.

What you need to do is set the strap to 333 or 400 then pick the dram frequency manually.

Lets say you want 3.6
set the fsb to 400
fsb strap 400
dram frequency 800.
vcore 1.4-1.5

The rest looks like it will play nice.
Your ram will run 1:1 with the CPU and the ram will only be running 800 and the cpu will be 3.6 a 1600FSB

Okay, I'll try that now.

Although, "the ram will only be running 800" surley thats underclocking my ram?

Thankyou for the fast responce!

Ya it is underclocking your ram. You wanted 1:1
It dont matter if you did run your ram 1066 the cpu will only feed it so much. You'll never run 533FSB to match your ram speed at 1:1.

Booted at 3.6Ghz @ 1.4Vcore

Ram is at 800Mhz which seems alittle low. im on a 1:1 ratio in Cpuz.

Will i notice much from under clocking my ram to 800mHz?

And 1:1 is the best right?

Okay, How about if i overclock my ram? What would be a safe voltage to go to with the CPu on setting 333?

Temp after 4mins : 49C

Ahhh! Superb! So my rig is about as much as it go? OC wise?

will i notice haivng 800Mhz? all that much?

What is a good program to use ? I herd of Prime although i nerver know where to get it or what one to get because there site is kinad confusing.

Thankyou so much!!

I would leave it at 800 if it was my rig or for a customer. But I would of only bought 800 ram. Lot sof people buy the big stuff thinking bigger is better.

You only nee big ram when you have a small multi like 6 or 7 and you have to run a 450-500+FSB to get a good OC. Your board FSB limit is around 450
