What software can be used to open game archives and extract/insert data from/into them?
I tried using popular software like WinRAR, 7Zip and WinZIP but they don't work. For instance,. forge files used by Assassin's Creed.
Why game archives cannot be opened with software like WinRAR?

Because they're extremely proprietary formats, meant for specific use with specific software, and not meant to be open by the consumer. So generalized software such as this doesn't address these formats. You'll either have to force it somehow or wait for someone in the community to create a tool.

Because they are encrypted proprietary, to prevent exactly what you're trying to do.
