Help with os problems!!

I bought full version windows 8.1 from newegg (download) and put it on my pc via usb. However, my pc says windows is not activated! I used the product key and everything! I still cant customize or anything, nor can I access the internet. When i purchased full version I assumed it came with everything. Please help me!
