Hello we have this old Computer and lately ANY GPU we put on it is overheating for some reason, even on idle.

It was recently cleaned and here's what it looks like inside

All video cards used on that Computer have been getting high temperatures but when putting the video cards on the other Computer with the same build temperatures are only running around 40c - 50c on idle. Both are newly formatted, newly cleaned, and both are running on:

Processor: i3 2120
PSU: Corsair VS450
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2

Video Cards used for testing:

AMD Radeon HD 5500 going 70c+
Nvidia GT 730 2GB DDR3 going 85c+

Borrowed Cards:
Nvidia GT 1030 going 80c+
Zotac GTX 1050 going on 80c+

Programs used for checking Temperature:

TechPowerUp GPU-Z
MSI Afterburner (Was only used for checking Temperatures nothing else)

Both Computers are mostly used for browsing, Facebook, Youtube and sometimes casual gaming.

I'm not really sure whats causing the GPU's to heat up on this Computer. I do get the "The Nvidia Geforce GT 730 device is not removable and cannot be ejected or unplugged." error and my screen goes black but the Computer is still running just that the screen goes black because the card got ejected, I've tried controlling it using TeamViewer and yes it's still on desktop even when the screen goes black I guess it got ejected due to heat reaching 95c+ or 100c+, other than that error I do not get any other problem, no BSOD, no sudden shut down/restart, no display problems, no slow down or etc.

Is it a faulty Motherboard? Maybe the GPU slot is faulty causing it to overheat? PSU maybe? The high temperature readings are accurate cause when touching the GPU physically they are really hot.

Thanks in advance for those who will be replying hoping you could give me a solution for this.

Hi! The side panel of both computer case is actually open and whenever we use them we do put a 2 large fans beside them. Both Computers are on the same environment, same case, and set up so it's weird that the GPU on the other PC is heating up like this. I'm not sure whats causing this since both have been cleaned and when swapped the GPU that's been heating up on one PC does not heat up on the other PC.

That seems strange. I'm not a complete tech savvy but I think the GPU slot could possibly be faulty.

It's ok at least you replied and I know that people are viewing this thread. But I'm getting frustrated as each day passing and no one seems to know what problem I'm having.

Is such thing possible? Like a bad PCIE Slot can heat up the GPU but not crash it? The display and computer doesn't crash nor do I get any error or problems just that any Video Card I put will overheat on the said PC, this is driving us nuts! :fou:

I've been checking the CPU temperature too but it doesn't heat up it stays at 40c - 50c while the GPU is 70c+! (Do note that 70c - 90c temperature is happening on idle and not on gaming)

I guess no one here have experienced this kind of thing? Also I know for sure that the program is detecting the heat properly cause when physically touching the card it really is so hot.

Hello I think you misunderstood XD I said "MSI Afterburner (Was only used for checking Temperatures nothing else)"

As you can see above the screenshot provided the fan is running at 100% speed when the temperature hit 76c and it was on auto also I checked the fan physically and it was spinning properly and fast and the only program active was GPU-Z and the AMD Control Center no MSI Afterburner or anything else.

The fans are working properly if the fans are not working then the GPU should heat up when transferred to another PC but that is not the case here.
