I'm looking to build my first pc and i intend to use it mostly for gaming (all other program use will be minuscule) i need help as i do have a build in mind but i want a second opinion on it as i am over budget i am planning to get as much performance as possible and i have a budget of $1500 also i live in canada so everything is slightly more expensive than usa
my build http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/yRGsP6
currently i am at $1663 and i really don't want to got that over so i need help reducing the cost
i have set up 3 storage drives
1 SSD cache
1 SSD boot drive
1 HDD for storage
i don't want to sacrifice any but i would like an opinion of cheaper drives
now i do intend to keep this for an extremely long period of time no negotiation about that (atleast 5 years) so it does have to be up-gradable hence the larger PSU although components i do not intend to replace is anything that requires set up such as the cpu i will not buy anything more further down the line such as another CPU cooler as i don't want go through the hassle of putting it on so i intend to buy it with the computer sinc i will not have to deal with it later. now i am a tab fiend so i like to have extra ram but i am perfectly acceptable with 8gb

Guidelines: if it does not affect performance feel free to replace it with something cheaper
if performance is minor your call if its worth the price
do not take out components just replace them with something cheaper
try situating this for gamplay at no more than ultra, 1080p, no less than medium,1080p
i am willing to go just slightly over budget (try to stay only $50 over but if there is dramatic increase in performance i may be willing to go over, just try to stay under $1600 if you intend to go over)

Thanks i wish to see all your great replies

Solution
Few hundred dollars cheaper, you could also go for a cheaper liquid cooler like the h100i which would save you another $20 or so.

"I'm looking to build my first pc" doesn't go together with "i have set up 3 storage drives" or is this just in your mind and you want 3 drives?

SSD cache? You use a SSD for the boot/OS drive and a HDD for data storage. Just try to get a SSD big enough to keep eg games Apps on too.

Need peripherals? OS?

Try -

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($256.89 @ DirectCanada)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ Memory Express)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($179.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($94.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($122.89 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($58.75 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($389.98 @ DirectCanada)
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 230T Orange ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.95 @ Vuugo)

Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($19.99 @ Canada Computers)

Wireless Network Adapter: Asus PCE-N15 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($29.27 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $1485.29

above is right.
It's cheaper to get one bigger SSD and split it into 2 partitions instead of 2 small SSD.
That alone will save you a good amount of money.

The build above is very nice, but:
- i would get a cheaper mobo if you want to save money ( asrock Z97 extreme 4 is around 100$ i think )
- if you wanna futureproof your rig and go sli or so in the future you might wanna get a 750W powersupply.

I would go 8GB ( 2x4 ) now, you can always add another 8GB later.

sorry my previous post had to be re-posted and i forgot to put up the link but it's up now also the OS and peripherals are not a concern and should not be included in the price, and i do work with computer alot and i have a full understanding of them, i just have never actually built my own from scratch, and i do have some experience upgrading them.

Thanks although i really have no concern to buy it all from one place if i can get parts for cheaper from others but i will keep that in mind

As a fellow Canadian I must agree prices up here suck! Sometimes I find better deals on Newegg, NCIX etc but I live in BC, so with after shipping+taxes directcanada usually beats them for me. (Plus I usually receive my shipments from DC within 2-3 days).

Without an OS, you have an extra $100. You could change the i5 to an i7 4790k and get a H100i and a bigger case and hopefully still stay under $1600

Wish I got an H100i and a bigger case, my damn 300R cursed me to settle with an H80i 😛

lol boys and girls from canada.
Don't make a sad face when comparing prices.

I pay the exacth same price in europe as they do in the US, only difference is the currency. 1500$ will be 1500€ for me 🙂

also everything is cheaper in America: pc's, food, the women 🙂
That's right America! i said it!

This is my current build in euros, and in Canadian dollars:

1 Euro = 1.4 CAD at the moment, so our prices are similar but at the moment we have it a little better in Canada. However, that could just be due to which suppliers are offering deals.

In the US my build would cost $1147.64 which is equivalent to $1,360.07 after the conversion rate. If you think about it, we're all paying similar prices. As Euros > USD > CAD.

i really feel your case is the best no compromise build here and if i don't receive any better answer in the next 24 hrs ill put you as the solution, but do you have any tips like how much i should dedicate to caching, should i get a cheaper case? is their a big difference between the kraken and H100i? and to anyone reading i just don't feel like the i7's can contribute anymore to gaming than the i5 4690k as it is an overclockable cpu that runs pretty nice and the newer i7 require me to get a x99 board

Yeah if your wanting a cheaper case you could go with the Corsair 200R. I'll do some research on the 2 coolers and get back to you (on my phone at the moment). And you''re right the I7 has little advantage over the I5 in gaming, which I feel doesn't justify the extra money. When I did my build I found my cpu+mobo cost almost the same as just an I7.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/rprJqs here's where we're at right now i do think the WD black series is a nice touch basically the case doesn't get any cheaper (surprisingly) i think i'm gonna run 2 sli max so the only thing i'm debating is is my PSU overkill and should i get a case fan also it may seem a little Canadian but i'd like to thank everybody for helping me out so far i appreciate it and without you guys i would have never known i could build something this good and still be under budget

You forgot to say "Sorry eh" 😛 Build looks good, however your PSU is a little overkill even for 2 way SLI. Check out a 750-850W Gold rated PSU instead if you're only running 2 max. Why not be even further under budget :)

lol i get the joke but "eh" is not used in that context, sorry i don't mean to be a buzzkill (fuck i did it again) anyways http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/JwQ3jX i believe that's my final build i'm closing this forum and i should have this build by the start of February although i'm picking you i'd like to thank i7Baby for all the GPU and Mobo charts he's made for helping with the build, and anyone else that has helped me so far you were all the best I could have asked for and who knows i might see you again soon
