Help with phone (UK)

Hello

I bought a phone from someone one on eBay uk and i have received it and the person said that it was a contract phone.
I have tried the sim (O2) and it says not registed on network. How do i fixed this

Any help will be appreciated

Is the sim from an old phone or is it from a current phone., also the phone probably needs to be registered through ur phone carrier.

The seller gave the sim but i also tried one straight out the pack but it is expired. And how do i register the phone, I've never done that

so ive tried other sims and they work, only o2 gives no service but when i try the 2 o2 sims in my other phone they also give no service. So thanks anyway
