Hello! I wanted to transfer really valuable and important photos/videos to me from my samsung galaxy s23 to my pc. I also had storage on my phone nearly full, so I cut them from my phone to a new folder on my desktop. They were fully transferred, but I also plugged in my IPad for charging and the corner of it was pressing the ctrl button. Before I realized, I wanted to rename the folder again because of a typo, and instead it pressed ctrl+z and my heart dropped. The folder was named “new folder” again and the files were gone, unable to paste them again or undo the action.

I shut down the pc so no new files were created or overridden, and as of now I am seeking help or advice in how to attempt or have any chance of recovering the files from the PC or the android phone itself. I tried to find if they are not in the trash, temporary files on my pc, or the cloud, but unfortunately they are nowhere to be seen. I also do not have any “previous folder state” saved or a backup. I also did not delete the new folder that stored the images and videos previously.

I really would participate any advice or help on the matter. And anything I can try

Didn't you backup your S23 with Smartswitch or cloud service? It is a must to do so.

Unfortunately I was in the middle of setting everything up after switching to new IPad and new phone 🙁 So I did not have my cloud setup yet

That sounds absolutely heartbreaking I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It was smart of you to shut down the PC immediately to avoid overwriting any deleted data. Since the files were cut (not copied) and then lost through an accidental Ctrl+Z, they were likely removed in a way that bypasses the Recycle Bin.
I recommend trying a trusted data recovery tool like Recuva, PhotoRec, or EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. Run it from another drive (like a USB) to avoid overwriting anything on your main disk. Focus the scan on your desktop directory first.
Also, it might be worth checking your Samsung’s internal storage with a recovery app like Dr.Fone or DiskDigger, just in case they didn’t fully delete during the transfer. Wishing you the best I really hope you're able to get your memories back.

it indeed was unlucky, because I was just going to copy the entire folder so that I have one with all photos, and second one with a selection of few best I wanted to take to print. If I had noticed my IPad pressing the ctrl button earlier this wouldn’t have happened. But thank you for the advice, I will see what I can do from a pendrive or another drive so as not to override overwrite any files, and keep you guys updated!

Ouch, I understand your stress, it's happened to me before. You did the right thing to turn off the PC quickly, it increases your chances of recovery. I advise you to try Recuva or PhotoRec, targeting your hard drive. With a little luck, the files are still recoverable.
