Help with pictures

Hello. I have a window 7 computer and use a Seagate external hard drive. I have many pictures. The pictures are now assigned a number, for example, scan000 is now assigned a number B0001234. How can I correspond my pictures with the new assigned number? Is there an easy way? Is there a way I can look at the B00001234 and know what picture it is assigned to? for example a certain B number might be assigned to a scan, img. etc. I would appreciate any suggestions.
