Help with ping spikes

Hey, I have problems with ping spikes, which are very annoying in online games and I really want a fix but google hasn't given me anything. It occurs at any stage in a connection according to tracert and they have happened with three different providers (2 ADSL and 1 fibre) in two different houses with different routers. My PC is connected via wi-fi at the moment, but I had the same issue over ethernet.

In online games its like the game just freezes for a second or so, the ping jumps to 200-300 (normally 40-60) and then falls back to 40-60ms immediately. On my phone, the wi-fi connection drops occassionally before reconnecting itself, which would lead me to think this is a router problem, but it happens with multiple routers.

Does anybody have any solutions to this?

I would say if it ISN'T the router, it could be the modem or the ISP. If it is happening on your phone and your computer, then I don't think it would be the network port on your computer. If you switched up the router already but the same things happens, the modem and your connection are all I can think of that's left. Run a few SpeedTest and see what comes through and compare that to what you're paying for from your ISP. Chances are they can send someone out and take a look at the connections to the house for you if you are spiking that badly that you aren't getting what you're paying for.
