Hi there,

I been reading around about water cooling and I'm a bit confused because I see people mention negative and positive pressures, and how its bad if your pc is on the floor etc.

Lately my stock intel 4970k fan has been getting loud, so annoying, I looked up easy to install coolers and the Kraken x62 is beautifully easy and quiet (my brother has it) so I'm upgrading to that if it fits the carbide 540. the top fans is listed as (x2)120mm/140mm so I don't know if that means it can fit two 140mm or only one 140mm. If it can't fit 2 140mm then I guess I can go with the kraken x52 which is 240mm.

So my question is taking into consideration this whole negative and positive stuff, my pc on a laminate wood floor, and I'm adding a water cooler...is there a specific kind of set up I need for the placement of the water cooler?

this is the case btw for anyone wondering: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-air-540-high-airflow-atx-cube-case

it already has two stock case fans on the front, one stock case fan on the back. I was thinking of putting the Kraken in the top section but I don't know now, I'm confused and I don't wanna damage my pc if it's sitting on the ground with all this negative pressure stuff.

p.s for anyone saying why get a water cooler if i don't know how to OC--- just get a regular ol heatsink....tried...bought the hyper212 evo (I've installed it before on my old gaming pc) and it wouldn't mount like I spent a good 2-3 hours trying to get the x bracket to fit with the stupid notch and pin and I got so frustrated I booted it down the street (then with shame I walked over and picked it up because littering is bad lol). Anyways, i saw the video of how easy it is to install the kraken so im set on it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Solution
well, the problem with those so called "liquid" coolers is that they cost way more than good air coolers (read not 212 EVO crap) while performing same or worse than those air coolers and mostly good air cooler will be quieter. and air cooler much more reliable.

If you still want to get Krapen X62 (IMO best used as Christmas tree decoration), it will fit both in front and top of your case.
Positive/negative pressure is not really important - to get positive, configure the intake fans to spin faster than exhaust. Since you are not overclocking, the position is also not really important too.
so just put it on top of the case.

I have that same case, and a Cryorig A80 liquid cooler. 280mm.
The tom space will accept a 240mm or 280mm radiator.

That's where mine is installed.

Thank you for the info!

Glad to know the positive negative stuff doesn't really affect me. Would you be able to recommend an air cooler that is effective and easier to set up than that 212 EVO? I'm getting the Kraken x62 for $120 CAD so I figured it's a pretty good deal compared to the 189 currently on Amazon.ca

Sweet! and so clean :'( I need to really clean my cabling up lol at least doing this fan upgrade gives me the opportunity to do that. Thanks USAFRet!

For your 540....the 4 big holes on the bottom need tending to.
You would think that Corsair would have included a filter screen for that area.
No.
It's shaped for one, but in the interest of saving $1, they didn't.

So either duct tape, or create your own filter.

I used one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008N8GENI
And some adhesive backed Velcro to cover that space.
Fits "almost" perfectly.

120CAD for a X62 is really good price.

Air coolers:
https://www.amazon.ca/quiet-BK018-Dark-Rock-Cooler/dp/B00HPX7IKU really nice but a bit tricky to install
https://www.amazon.ca/Noctua-NH-U14S-Sockets-Heatpipe-Cooling/dp/B00C9FLSLY/ - totally awesome performer and very easy to install if you don't mind the look.
https://www.amazon.ca/Cryorig-Ultimate-CR-H5B-Middle-Heatsink/dp/B0154AXB4C - great performance, easy to install, nice looking.

Any of them can handle reasonably overclocked 4790K (whatever you can reach with 1.35v).

P.S.
Don't get me wrong, I love liquid cooling. It's just those AiOs are more of a marketing gimmick with almost none of the benefits of a true custom loop.

this is great, thanks! I actually like the way the noctua looks haha. I'll check these out in the store if they have em and decide from there.

Thanks alot for all your help
