Been using a nearly half-decade old build with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.4 ghz). I've only upgraded it once in 2012, replacing the case and CPU cooler, as well as putting in a GTX 560ti. Not the most powerful build, but a decent mid-range one that's been good to me for some light to moderate gaming.
But with games like The Witcher 3 on the horizon, I think now's a good a time as any to build a new, relatively powerful PC. I'm only in the planning stages, but here's what I have so far:
CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K (I don't plan on overclocking)
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 7
Graphics card - EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 750W Full Modular
HDD - Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM Internal HDD
Disc drive - ASUS 24X DVD Burner
Case - Corsair Carbide Series Black 500R
CPU cooler - Corsair Hydro Series H110
Total - $1541.91 (w/o OS)
Overall, looking for some insight on possible improvements or reducing the price. As I've said, this is preliminary, nothing set in stone, so feel free to throw out some ideas. Hoping to play The Witcher 3 on high-ultra settings 1080p single monitor, though I know that could be potentially hard to gauge this far out from release.
Thanks in advance.
