Hello, I bought a EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 +. I have a Dell Precision T3500 desktop. The GPU needs one 6 pin and one 8 pin connectors to power it. Unfortunately, I hadn't popped open my case and checked these specs before purchasing the card. I found that my PSU harness has only a single 6 pin PCI power connector.

I have the following options,

i) replace the power harness from a compatible PSU with the additional cables that I desire.
ii) replace the power supply unit with one from a higher end Dell Precision or buy a third party modular power supply - like from Corsair.

I would like help with these.

Thanks

Solution
All you need to do is to buy a new PSU with those connectors (it will come with those). There is no such thing as harness, really, the PSU just comes with all the cables.

This PSU is semi-modular and top quality: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Continuous-Warranty-120-G1-0650-XR/dp/B00K85X2AW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447016301&sr=8-1&keywords=650w+gold+evga

If you want something a little cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/XFX-650W-FULL-WIRED-BRONZE/dp/B0045L5LGI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447016338&sr=8-2&keywords=xfx+ts

If you want something REALLY CHEAP: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Continuous-Warranty-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447016377&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+500w

If you want something REALLY CHEAP, reliable, AND if you want to do weird sh*t then get the VP-450 PSU and get molex to 8 pin: http://www.amazon.com/Antec-VP-450-Power-Supply/dp/B004IZN3K2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447016460&sr=8-1&keywords=vp-450

Will it fit in the case, dimension wise? How do I find the actual dimension of PSU before purchase. Amazon gives sizes like 13" across some dimension which probably includes packaging etc. Thanks!

Unfortunately it's a very unusual size. I've no clue what you can do. I can't find anything online

Okay so I found out that T3500's power supply and the motherboard are literally made for each other so there is no power supply out there except 825W T3500 power supply to upgrade to. What you can do is grab Molex to 6-pin/8-pin (whichever one you need) and use it to power your graphics card

Thanks a lot! Would it be possible for you to give me the link to the site or place you found it? I've been through a bunch of them which says both ways - some say that EPS12v supplies work, some say its proprietary dell design and it would not.

On my part, I went over the pin diagram of ATX12V/EPS12V main board power and found all the wires to be matching the given color code except pin 20 which according to ATX/EPS 12V standard is not connected and should have a white (color coded) cable going into it. On mine though, a yellow wire was going into it.

Further more, these are other forum threads that said EPS12V should work:

i) The last but one post here http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2469231/dell-precision-t3500-boot.html
ii) Posts in this say EPS12V should work with the motherboard http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19517787
iii) The specification for EPS12v, page 15 gives the pin diagram for EPS12v specification http://www.smps.us/EPS12V_Spec2_92.pdf

As I mentioned, pin 20 is not connected in eps12v spec and a white wire should go into the mother board, but my existing connector has a yellow cable going in.

Whats even more confusing is DELL is part of the SSIS (Server System Infrastructure Specification) consortium whose PDF on EPS12V specification I shared above.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Regards

Thanks a lot! I will try it. However, I have only one free Molex hanging from my PSU.

What other connectors do you have? You will be surprised at how many adapters you can find.
