Hey,

I've just purchased an AMD r9 390 gpu along with a new power supply to fit the 750 watt requirement. The you had 2 8 pin connections for the power supply however the one I've brought only has a single 6 pin connector. In the manual for the you it says "connector (s) option: 1x4pin, 1x6pin, 1x8pin, 2x4pin, 2x6pin, 2x8pin, 1x8pin + 1x6pin" this is all a bit confusing to me as the card doesn't seem to run with only 1x6pin connected.

Could someone please explain to me why it will not run on only 1 and also if using a 2 molex to 8 pin pcie along with the 6 pin I already have would power the gpu ?

Additional information :

Gpu model: sapphire r9 390 video

Psu: CiT 750ub

Thanks In advance!

Yep that psu has only 1 PCI-e 6pin connector, so yes you can use an adapter from molex to 8 pin.
However it is preferable in all circumstances to get a PSU with an 8 pin and 6 pin on it in the first place. I personally wouldn't run it like that.
If you can't return it then your best option is to just run it with a molex.

-good luck

I am located in England, I purchased the psu for about £30, I am not worried about returning this unit but I will certainly go out tomorrow and buy a better one, any suggestions on how I know which will be good enough for the card?

Thanks alot for the responce!

As long as the PSU is a minimum of 600w, can supply more than say 35a on the 12v rail. AND has a 6pin and 8 pin connectors.

-good luck

edit: also buying from more repuatable brands such as seasonic, XFX, Corsair is preferable.

Yes easily 😉 I use a Corsair RMi myself. The specs are good, and you got enough connectors for more than one card.
make sure it seems the way you want it 100% when you use it. Some people complain of coil whine on the older RM series.

-good luck

Would recommend the supernova Rcald2000 over the rm. If maplin is your only choice the rm will cut it.

Excellent, I will spend a few hour shopping around and decide it it's worth waiting for a delivery or buying what they have in store (I am highly impatient at the best of times)

Thanks again, you've both been very helpful.
