i currently upgraded my system to ryzen 5 1600 and got new ram sticks for it but i cant seem to get them to go up to their speed which is rated at 3000 they are currently at 2400 i really dont know how to mess with and adjust the timings voltage and such in the bios i tried enabling the xmp profile yet my pc turns off and on then when it does boot the ram drops to 2133 can any one help

ps: the ram i bought wasn't listed on the supported memory list but it runs fine at 2400 i got it at a decent price

my set up is as listed

gpu: asus rx 480 8 gb

Solution

Your only real options here are to either manually enter the listed timings and voltage of 16-18-18-38 @1.35v, or see if you can update your BIOS. Alternatively, see if you can set the frequency to 2666 without changing timings.

there is a new bios out for my board when i go to manually adjust them its already set at the listed 16-18-18-38 @1.35v when i try to go to 2666 it wont let me and just reboots 3 times and drops speeds to 2133 would updating the bios help ? my version currently is 3.20 the most current update is 4.60 i really want to get these up to speed

I would recommend updating your BIOS. I have 3200mhz ram that used to be stuck at 2666 due to lack of compatibility, but a BIOS update allowed me to get it to 3200. However there's no guarantee that will be the case for you.

Solution

Ill update the bios and see what happens hopefully i can get the ram to at least higher than 2400

Did it end up working?

yes i think so i currently am on bios 4.60 and have my ram at 2800 im a bit worried to go up higher because i dont want to mess up any parts i just upgraded last November if i want to go up to any higher would i have to adjust the timings ? the xmp profile on the ram is set for 3000 i read the board would set it to 2933 correct ? thank you for the help

Yes, activating XMP would set the speed to 2933, and would automatically adjust the timings. There is no need to worry about messing up any parts, worst case scenario XMP doesn't work and you will need to reset your CMOS, which can be done by shorting two pins on the motherboard (see your motherboard manual). This will reset all your parts to their default settings, and it will be as if nothing ever happened.
