Currently I have 8 GB of Ram in my computer and I want to upgrade it to 16 or 24 but I don't know about the speed I should get below are two sets I was looking at.

I'm new to computer building will I be able to use the 1600 and 1866 at the same time just put them in the 2 open dim slots ? and if I have 1600 and put the 1866 in will any speeds be changed or should it just work the way it should ?

Don't run your 2x4 stick. Memory issues are the worst and even like-branded memory can be incompatible with each other. 16GB vs 24GB will give you literally no performance benefits in nearly any normal usage. You could be plagued by random crashing and all kinds of difficult to diagnose issues. Just run the two 16GB in their XMP profile and you'll be good.

So I should get the 16 GB over another set of 2 8GB ?

I am wanting to get black ops 3 on my computer and they have a memory leak issue plus I am thinking of editing videos soon and recording games on my pc.

If i get another set of 8gb 1600 ram just like I have now will it be 16gb in total and everything will work fine ?

Like mjslakeridge said, they are sold in kits for a reason. Ram can be a "touchy" piece of hardware. Even the same make/model/speed of ram can have trouble working together outside of kits. That being said, as long as it's the same cas latency, your chances are pretty good that it will work.

You could go with your previously mentioned kits, but if you could find another 16GB kit @ 1600mhz for less than the one above you could do that. 1866mhz RAM will work at 1600mhz so you could always just run it at that if you can't find a better deal.

I'm looking for 16gb at 1600 but they all cost about the same it seems and I don't know what is good and whats bad
