Hi,
As far as ive read you can use a 100hz montior as a external off a 60hz laptop via hdmi.
Do i need a better HDMI cable or use usb-c etc?
In display settings on the external i have the options only of 60 or 75 Hz, and 75 Hz makes the screen smaller and look terrible.
So im wondering if with my set up whether i can run my external on 100hz or if its not possible
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, i tried installing the graphics driver from the msi site you linked.
The driver on the site is Intel Graphics Driver is 31.0.101.4032
In my intel iris xe graphics settings its telling me the driver version is 31.0.101.4314

When trying to install the driver it says "a newer driver is already installed" so i imagine all is good there?

I will have to buy a new hdmi cable to try that, the cable im using came with the monitor so you would think it would be correct but you never can be sure

Hi,
I haven't got a new hdmi cable yet as i thought i would check a few things.
I plugged another computer tower into the monitor with the same hdmi cable , and could select 100hz right away.
So i now know its possible to get to 100hz.
The tower is way older than the laptop.
Would this mean that as the laptop is newer it does in fact need a newer hdmi cord version?
Or running it external may be the issue and its somehow defaulting to the laptops HZ?
Im happy to buy a cable its just a waste of money if this doesnt fix it as i have many working hdmi cables.

Thanks, i just got a reponse from msi

"Don't connect monitor on laptop if you are want higher refresh rate.
It is limitation by laptop."

Thats unfortunate but at least i can stop scratching my head.
