Hi I have just got PC Specialist Vanquish Gamer Pro VR II Gaming PC and Acer XF240H 24" Full HD FreeSync Gaming Monitor . I’m having trouble with sound. It’s showing Acer monitor as default and it’s cranked right up but extremely tinny. The audio devices shows Realtek too but tests aren’t showing any sound even when that’s enabled as default. I have display port connected to pc. But sure if i need external speakers for Realtek to work? Any help would be great!!

The Realtek sound controller isn't the same as the source you are connecting your audio cable to.

If you are piping sound through your video cable, the sound is still being produced by your Realtek audio controller.

You didn't mention anything about your hardware, but if you change your audio output device from your video card to your motherboard's audio jacks, you can simply plug a decent pair of speakers into the back of your computer.

But with the audio cranked all the way up (both in Windows and on your monitor), it should not be whisper quiet.

So, if I read you right, audio output IS working, it just doesn't sound as good as it should?

Monitor speakers are not known for their great sound quality, and Acer isn't exactly a Top Shelf brand.

But if your sound is cranked and still quiet, your speakers may be plugged into an unamplified audio output source. If you are sending audio over your DP cable, check the audio settings on your video card (in Win10, go to Settings and type "Sound". See which output device is being used, change if necessary, and check your Configuration & Properties.)

You should definitely look into buying a decent set of speakers, but first verify where you are drawing audio from. Optimally, I'd say don't pull your audio from your video card. Go straight to the source... the audio jacks on your PC.

sounds definitely through acer on that but when i try to disable and enable the realtek and test theres no sound at all , just the sound bar going up when it tests. is the real tek only going to work with any speakers i get? Do you suggest any i could get? Thank you.
