How to insert with Studio 8 a short extract from a DVD into a home
made vide

Not trivial.
First you will have to rip the DVD to your hard drive
(using SMARTRIPPER or something similar).
Then use a tool like VOBRATOR to extract the video
and all audio tracks.
Then use a tool like AZIDLAME to remix the DD 5.1
audio to 2 channel mp3 files.
Then use a tool like TMPGENC to join the *.mpv video
stream and the *.mp3 audio stream together to generate
a valid *.mpg MPEG-2 file (go to FILE->MPEG-Tools -
no recompression necessary for this step!).
Finally you can easily include this *.mpg file in your video
project.
