i have 8 gb of ddr3 memory in my pc and i wanted to buy a new graphics card but i wanted to know if i bought a gpu with gddr5 memory will it work properly and will there be any bottlenecking?

ANY MORE INFORMATION ON THIS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED AS I AM RELATIVELY NEW TO THIS SUBJECT.

THANKS IN ADVANCE :)

Yes it will work just fine. System ram and video ram aren't the same thing and work independently from one another. Bottlenecking is a problem that can occur between the cpu and gpu specs or could be from running a pcie 3.0 card in a standard pcie 2.0 or 1.0 slot (where it would be backwards compatible but the interface bandwidth restricted some).

For instance if you have a new core i5 cpu and a low performing gpu like a geforce 8800, the video card would bottleneck the system in games. If it were an intel core 2 duo and a gtx 980, the cpu would be the bottleneck since it's slower/less powerful than the 980. It's about a balance between pairing the two since the system won't perform any better than the slowest part of the system...

Completely separate from the fact that video cards use gddr5 and mainboards use ddr3/ddr4.
