First of all thanks for reading this i will try to explain my current problem.
First of all my computer specs:
Windows 7 sp1 64 bits.
AMD fx 8320 processor
Mobo: Asus M5A78L-M LX plus
GPU's: Gigabyte radeon hd 6870 windforce edition / EVGA geforce gtx 970 ftw+ ac2+ (ill explain later)
Memory: Corsair xms3 8 gb (2x4gb)
Psu: Thermaltake toughpower XT 575 Watts
Drive 1: Western digital 250gb Sata 7200 rpm
Drive2: seagate 1tb sata
some generic dvd rom
this is a custom build, im not a computer engineer or anything its just my hobby to build my own pcs.
so here is the problem, one day the computer had a BSOD and rebooted itself but showed no video. i opened the case and everything looked normal, but still no video, so i took the gpu out and used the integrated graphics and the pc started normally. so i supposed it was the gpu which was already 5 years old (radeon 6870), i connected it again and the computer offered to boot in safe mode wich i did and it did all the way, so i downloaded DDU (display driver uninstaller) and deleted all video drivers from the computer, i downloaded the newest gpu driver for amd and installed them, no luck, the gpu only worked in safe mode, so i tried the old gpu driver from the CD that came with the card, also no luck, pc only booted in safe mode with the gpu , with the integrated graphics it booted just fine.
So i went ahead and made the gpu upgrade i had in plans: a evga gtx 970, everything indicated that my system could handled it, in fact according to specs the old Radeon 6870 consumed more power than this gtx 970.
so i used the pc for a couple of days with the integrated gpu while the card got delivered.
the card got home, i installed it and it booted with no drivers of course, it booted fine, i installed the latest drivers from the nvidia website, and the computer booted fine with the new drivers, but i noticed it was somewhat slow, when i check in the windows info page it says RAM 8gb installed (3.96 usable).
i rebooted the pc, entered the bios and it showed only 4gb detected, i contined with the boot (both sticks of ram connected and the 970 gpu, and the computer turned itself of after the windows logo screen.
i went ahead a dissasemble the whole pc to clean a bit and check the parts for bulky transitors and anything wrong, everything looks good every single hardware piece.
so now i booted the pc with no GPU (thinking the psu could not handle the power load, thus making it impossible to run any of the 2 gpus) and it booted but showed the same ram problem, bios shows 4gb, windows says 8gb( 3.97 usable), i tried both sticks alone in both slots each one and they work fine and boot the pc all the way and can be use to browse and whatnot albeit really slow.
So, im down to 2 conclusions : 1 the motherboard is the problem or 2 the psu is defective and cannot handle any of the 2 gpus , thus rebooting or turning off, unless in safe mode which we know doesnt use 95% of the video card.
Any suggestions, i still need to format and clean install windows, but anything else i have tried.
cheers and im sorry if my english is bad its not my native language
