can someone please tell me the main differences between intel's 975X, 965P, 965Q, 965G??

i need to decide a mother board for my rig and i am confused! i am planning to overclock with the e6300 and wait untill 65nm and dx10 so if you know an other mobo outside intel's chipset that will do good with what i am looking for would be great!

thanks.

a big factor in choosing a board and chipset will depend on your choice of graphics cards. you mentioned dx10. keep in mind that intel chipsets do not currently support sli but some of them support crossfire. so if you want a sli geforce rig an intel chipset based mobo won't suit your needs.

if you want a mobo with sli support for a core 2 duo based system, i would opt for a nforce 680i chipset. the mobo i would like to get my hands on is the asus striker extreme.

mplichfamily, thanks very very much for the info! yes, the letters make sense now.. hehe

hmm i was thinking then getting a nice mobo and memory that can be used with the coming 45nm, and buying a low end c2d processor and a cheap/good deal gpu. and wait until Dx10 and 45nm comes out and gets a bit cheap.. i think thats the best way to get something nice for a thight budget, am i right?

thanks i'll probably do that! and i know that software companies are heading to make their new programs 'kentsfield' oriented.. so it will be really nice to get an upgradable rig.

Hey! This is my first post and I hope its useful.

Have a look at:
Intel Chipset comparison

I noticed that the Q965 series chipset has "2 threads" in it's bus spec. Is that a requirement for Quad Core? Or an enhancement?

And a question for you, mpilch... What do you mean with "CF compatible"?

Sorry for my english in advance. Far from perfect!
