Help with "Till death makes a monkfish...?"

Hi all,

I'm playing with Monkfish and having a great time with it. Question
below where I'm stuck (yes, I've tried level 1-2 hints.)

(SPOILERS LIKELY BELOW - SCROLL)



























I have the metal rod, which is a metal detector, right? I'm in Dr.
K's room and want to search the junk, but I cannot find the right
syntax to search with the detector. (I think I've tried everything
about a million times.) I have turned it on, just can't find the
syntax to use it.

Could someone give me a kick in the right direction for how to tell my
toon to use the metal rod?

Put rod on clothing.

I think things like "sweep rod over", "hold rod over", "hold rod above"
and so forth should work. (I can't remember any more, though). And if
they don't, that's goddamn criminal.

But "wave rod over" does work.

And of course, having played too much cyberpunk lately, I really
wanted to "scan <whatever> with rod" or maybe "search <> with rod"
