Help with upgrade

Looking to extend the life of my system that is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm thinking maybe a new graphics card might be the way to go, but I'm not sure which one my current system might be able to take without bottle necking. Here is my current setup:

So through doing some research over the weekend, I think I'm going with upgrading to a single MSI GTX 970, with possible plans of expanding to 2 in SLI. Does anybody else have any tips or recommendations? Could my PC handle two 970s in SLI?
