This is my existing PC:
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/d2FmFd

The graphics card is a kfa2 Gtx 970 however that wasn't listed.

My processor seems to be bottlenecking my gpu so I would like to upgrade. I have $300 to spend but could maybe go a little higher if needed.

Being on amd I expect I will probably need to switch to Intel and therefore need a new motherboard but I am a noob when it comes to Intel.

This PC is for gaming, streaming and recording (through Elgato hd60 if it matters).

If other upgrades would be recommended feel free I am pretty open at the minute.

Edit: i5 4460 seems pretty cheap at the minute but not sure how much gain I would be looking at?

i5-6600 $220
That motherboard is $70-80
16 GB of Balistix Sport RAM is $80

i5-4460 would be a big upgrade for the system. For $300 you may just want to go to the new Intel platform, i5-6500, 1151 socket mobo and DDR4 RAM, will be about $300 if you don't go crazy with the motherboard. A $70-80 board is good enough to use. And an SSD for the system drive would be next change.

Which would be the better upgrade though? 4460 or 6500?

Looking like I maybe able to get the 4460 cheaper and use ddr3 I already have that's all. I know it's overkill but I've been keeping my eye on the MSI Z97S Sli krait edition because it looks like a nice board and at some point I'll probably pick up another Gtx 970 and run it Sli.

Also I've been out of the loop for a while what's the average life span for an SSD now? It's always put me off because of the limited lifespan.

You are better off getting a cheaper motherboard and a single faster card than spending money on a motherboard and SLI, although for $130 that is not really a high end motherboard. Not all games run SLI well, and you are adding a lot of extra power draw. The older gen i5 is a good upgrade also, up to you really, it will run new games just fine. I'd save the $50 on the motherboard and put that towards a GTX 1070 over dual 970 cards.

I agree that a newer graphics card would give a much better performance increase than upgrading your CPU. A 6300 would bottle neck a 1070 quite a lot but if you rather have the performance increase I recommend that you sell your Gtx 970 and then pay the difference for the 1070.

Thanks to Black Friday, I think i managed to find some decent stuff.

I really do not want to upgrade my graphics card first because the bottleneck is pretty bad right now already in a few of the CPU heavier games I play. That being said a Gtx 1070 maybe an upgrade I will take later on.

Found this for $300, I tried to get them to upgrade to the K but they won't.
INTEL Skylake Core i5 6600 3.3Ghz CPU
ASUS H110M-A Motherboard
16GB 2133Mhz DDR4 Crucial RAM
For $300 how does that rank compared to earlier suggestions?
