I want to update my motherboards bios (Msi H97 pc mate) I downloaded the bios I want to update extracted it and re-formated a usb and pasted the files into it. But when I got into bios and select M-Flash it doesnt detect it. Win 8.1 64bit

Solution
Update Bios:

Go to manufacturers website, find the BIOS version of choice. Download it to desktop.
Extract it to Desktop. Plug in USB to a USB 2.0 port (black one, not blue one). Use Rufus to
make it bootable. (Select FAT32) https://rufus.akeo.ie/
Go into My Computer, locate the USB drive. Drag the Extracted BIOS file into your USB drive. Shut down pc.
Turn on PC, go into BIOS>Flash. Locate the USB drive, select the file you extracted. Update.
** Do not turn off PC and make sure power will not go out while this is updating. Should take a few min.
If your motherboard doesnt sense the USB, you can unplug the USB and when the pc is booted, plug the USB in and it should detect it.

Its formated to exFat which is its default and I need to update it to support a better proccesor

Is there an actual issue with it now ? I only ask because updating a bios can cause problems. Anyway if you decide to update hope you can get it to work. It should work since you formatted it and plug it into 2.0. Does the USB drive show up just not the bios version?

When I select M-Flash it tells me input a usb media device which I did put in but the motherboard doesnt see it in bios and thats my problem

Oh and you made the USB bootable with Rufus? https://rufus.akeo.ie/

format to fat32 using rufus, and then its bootable and you can put the usb into a usb 2.0 port (the black one, not blue) and boot up, go to your flash and it should be there. Once formatted with rufus you will need to put the Bios version back on as formatting will wipe the USB.

I used rufus before and its a wonderful program but I didnt think I needed to format to Fat32. I'll try it and see what happens

Im not sure what else to tell you. I would reformat it one more time, redownload a bios but select a difference server to download it from. Unzip it onto your desktop, put the file from desktop to your USB and then shut down pc. plug in usb to usb 2.0 (black one not blue) and when it loads you can go to flash, look for it. If you dont see it try and go to boot options change to Legacy and UEFI, try it again if you still dont see it maybe try and boot from your USB and select it. I stumbled across this you can try as a last resort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdj0i7AxCI

if nothing works I would call msi technical support. But what I mentioned here should work.

I got it working and updated bios. Apparently my motherboard could not see flash drives after turning on/restart so I quickly took it out and when the computer regained power I plugged it back in and it worked. Thanks for the help on the usb drive type as well.

You deserve it more so can you make a new post here that includes everything that you mentioned such as partitioning/Rufus/Fat32 and extracting into the usb itself and what I had to do with my motherboard not sensing my usb and I'll pick that as a solution.
