Hi all,

I have never overclocked using my BIOS.

However, I am going to buy a full set of used DDR3 RAM for my MSI Z68MA G45 (G3) motherboard to upgrade it, as mixing in new sticks of the same model produced errors in HCI Memtest.

However, the kit I am intending to buy is 1600. The manual for my motherboard says this speed is only supported when overclocked.

RAM model:

Motherboard model:

What do I have to do after installing the sticks? The last time i checked there was no such thing as XMP in any of the BIOS options. Do I have to use the MSI OC Genie?

Thank you

The last time i checked there was no such thing as XMP in any of the BIOS options.

With your MoBo BIOS, that is true. However, XMP is same as DRAM Frequency.

Do I have to use the MSI OC Genie?

No.

What do I have to do after installing the sticks?

Dig out your Holy Bible of PCs (aka MoBo manual), brush the dust off from it and read page 2-11, under "DRAM Frequency", to know what to do.
