Hello I recently built a new computer and my wifi card has been a mess. I know ethernet works fine but I don't really want to get a new wifi adapter. It is impossible to run ethernet to my room where my computer is, so i need a solution. My friend is willing to give me a http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Ethernet-Universal-Repeater-WAP3205v2/dp/B00BZBZZVW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383861161&sr=8-1&keywords=zyxel+wap+3205 . I wanted to know if i plugged this in in my room and then plugged an ethernet cable from it to my computer if it would work. Please help! Thanks in advance!

I have comcast internet I don't know what speed. And my router modem thing is a xfinity arris tc862.

That would be a fine AP, but the key is not plugging it into your machine, the key is getting an Ethernet cable to the device from the main router. Your computer could then make a wireless connection to the unit, no matter how messed up you think your wireless adapter may be, it should work fine if it has a nearby strong signal if properly configured.

Wireless extenders and bridges are relatively poor substitutes for a cable or the latest powerline adapters (i.e. the Zyxel PLA5205kit) and IMO should only be used when nothing else is possible.

IDK why my wifi card isn't working. It is definetly plugged in right and everything. I can boot up my computer fine and install the drivers fine. this is my wifi card : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KL7RUK/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
But whenever I follow the instructions to install the drivers, ( click download, go through setup wizard, restart computer when complete) nothing happens, it still shows the little monitor with the red x on it as it did before installing this. It shows in the manual that i should see 5 empty gray bars and be able to connect but it doesnt. any ideas?

Thanks for the idea, but it doesn't even show up in the device manager. Any ideas?

I have done so like 10 ish times. IDK if i should just reinstall windows all together and try it again or something.

It very occasionally cuts out, but other than that it is what is promised by the manufacturer. It was easy to install, has good range and speed."

4 star really!

yeah i never really checked on this, i did weeks of research on every other component but this. ;p thanks man. do you think this would be good? http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Powerline-Network-Adapter-PLEK400/dp/B006JG5S6K/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1383887459&sr=8-5&keywords=linksys+powerline

This; fast and worth the money. And yes, it should work if your friend gave you that older adapter although it isn't the best.

That looks great, thanks for the help. Is there any cheaper option just like that? 100+ dollars is a bit too much for me.

The prior version of the Zyxel unit (PLA4205), which was above average, generally hits 20-30Mbps on all of the sockets in my large house. The PLA5205 hits 100-120Mbps from the same locations with lower latency.

This is a "you get what you pay for" thing. Only you can decide what you need, but I gave away all my older sets for free when I started working with the PLA5205 model.

Take a look HERE for information on other sets, it is a pretty reliable site.

I'm pretty stupid, what's the point of having 2 of them ?
