Recently I reset my PC. As I had a lot of rubbish that i wanted to remove. After resetting my PC, I downloaded League of Legends and I turned off V-Sync as I was having input lag with my mouse.

That's when the problems occurred. Stuttering, it was like a frame was skipping. No one on the internet has this problem after resetting their PC/Laptop.

I'm also wondering it's a frame pacing issue. As the frame rate in these games were completely fine. I also tested this out in Counter Strike: GO and had the same stuttering issue. Overwatch too. This was not a problem before.

Before resetting my Laptop, There were no problems when I turned off V-Sync. Everything was much smoother and there were no frame stuttering or problems whatsoever.

It seems to me, that turning on V-Sync fixed the stuttering, but that doesn't make sense. The stuttering never happened before. It must be a issue, i have no idea what to do.
Please Help!

Thank You. P.S I've updated my Nvidia Graphics Card (Latest Update). and updated my Windows 10 operating system. And set my prerendered frames to 1 on the nvidia control panel.

Note: This is not happening to my Intel HD Graphics Card. Only with my Nvidia 820m.

Howdy.

I see.. Well here's the issue. Your screen can't give you more than 60fps!! The 60Hz is the refresh rate of your screen, meaning the screen is refreshed 60 times every one second, giving you 60 frames per second or (1 frame every 0.01666666666s). Everything more than 60 frames per second produced by your GPU is wasted since your screen can't display these frames for you.

What you described as "stuttering" is actually called screen tearing. This happens due to frames overlapping each other. Why do frames overlap? If you have V-Sync turned off, your GPU is producing the maximum frames it can (150+ as you described). These frames need to go somewhere which happens to be your poor screen. Since your screen cant handle these massive frames, it skips a few frames or joins two or more frames together, hence giving of "stuttering" or screen tearing.

When you turn V-Sync on, the frames produces by your GPU are restricted to 60fps in order to prevent screen tearing. G-Sync is an improved version of V-Sync and is made specifically for Nvidia GPUs. The alternate is FreeSync which is made for AMD GPUs. Both do the same thing, limit the frames produced by the GPU.

To fix this, simply turn on VSync. This will ensure you have the best experience while gaming. There should be no relation between your mouse and V Sync. Let us know if you experience mouse lag due to V Sync.

Thanks for your reply mate.
I'm experiencing mouse lag/ input delay with v-sync on. Basically making all games un playable apart from League of Legends 🙁.
I just don't understand that why this is happening with my laptop now. As there were no issues before when I turned off v-sync. Could it be a driver problem? I don't know. I regret resetting my laptop.

I do have a low spec laptop and i don't have the money to purchase a new laptop.

I would recommend you go to the manufacturers website and download the display driver from there (old one). If you still experience the same problem, only then update it to the latest version. Also is it a wireless mouse or a USB wired mouse?

I re rolled my nvidia graphics card driver, issue still occurs. Stuttering without V-Sync. Downloaded the one from last driver from Nvidia as well. This driver was working fine before I reset my pc. But the stuttering still occurs.

I've updated my Logitech G302 Mouse, issue with the mouse delay still occurs (with v-sync on) ;(

Are you ready to do some troubleshooting? Please avoid any violence towards your laptop lol. Poor guy has done nothing but be loyal to it's master.

Go to Nvidia control panel. Go to manage 3D settings, go to program settings tab (beside global settings. Click add and browse for the game. Set pre rendered frames to 1 and turn off VSync. Try if it works. If not do the following:

1. Before you try this, make sure you have "Enhanced pointer precision" disabled in the hardware and sound section of the control panel in the mouse options.

Now for the important part:

2. Install NVidia inspector then open it up (Run as admin),
To the right of where it says the driver version there is a little icon of a wrench and screwdriver, click this icon.
Scroll down to the "Other" section, find "Maximum frames allowed" and change the last number on the end (should be 2 by default) change this last number to "0" (just change the last number, not the entire number.)
click apply on the top right and you're done.

(NVidia, If you would make this change to the desktop environment, I would love you soooo much.)

3. Open a game and test.
4. If mouse still lags, Try one of the five options at the top to further increase the chances of removing any additional mouse issues.

Thank you!
I've already done everything here, I disabled enhanced pointer precision & audio before. Followed your Nvidia Inspector instructions. I guess it may of helped. Still there's some smoothing issues but what can i do 😀

The mouse smoothing with v-sync is a little better. But not as good without v-sync. but I appreciate your help my friend. I think I may need to get used to this smoothing issue with my games.

The stuttering problem still occurs without v-sync. Even when changing the frame rate limit to 60fps makes it feel like it's 30 with insane stuttering and screen tearing. [Pre-Rendered Frames to 1 and turned off V-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel]

I tested the problems out using Overwatch & League of Legends.

If there's anything else I can do to get rid of the mouse smoothing. I would be quite happy. But at the moment...
I love you! You have helped me alot! (no homo)

P.S i didn't beat my laptop. My baby already goes with 70 degrees to 80 whilst playing games. ;(
