I only have the mother
Board right now im looking into upgrading the cpu and gpu to a ryzen 5 3600 and the msi geforce 1660ti gaming. x 6gb

Graphics card is no problem but 3600 won't boot straight away. Need to get the motherboard updated with a compatible cpu. Need to do this first before installing 3rd gen Ryzen. Give the motherboard to a PC store for them to update with a 1st gen Ryzen cpu.

Or contact Amd for a processor loan.

Do what is most convenient to you.

R5 1600x

Should mention, the 1600x doesn't come with a cooler but the regular 1600 does.

If opt for 1600x,

Is it better to upgrade bios or get the r5 1600x

1600x is fine for 1660Ti. Pair the processor with fast ram ie 3200 CL 14 2x 8GB. Ryzen's performance is highly influenced by ram speed.

I suggested CL 14 memory because such ram from Gskill or Corsair use Samsung bdie chips and is most compatible with first gen Ryzen motherboards. Other higher CL ram 16+ commonly use different chips (Micron, Hynix) and may have problems getting fast ram running at their rated speeds. Bios updates have made memory compatibility improvements but not perfect. Samsung based memory has always been the go to ram for early Ryzen's.
