My friend wants to buy a GPU and PSU but it has to be very soon so i have found a 280 for £130 and a 285 for the same price which is better? oh and he is playing on 1080p

280: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IRTXPBM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp...

285: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-msi-radeon-r9-285-ga...

and any good quality 500w psu's you recommend for 40ish pounds because he has a "gaming" PC that had a a8-6600k and i informed him that there is no GPU inside :/ but i think he should probably replace the power supply as i think it is 350w but may be of poor quality

Thanks.

Solution
always on gpu buy the card with the higher number. the 285 is faster then the 280. on power supply pick up a good 650w for gaming a 500w and those gpu may be slightly under powered on the 12v line.
any 40.00 power supply going to go bang and take his rig out.

wut?

yeah i wasnt sure what to chose as most benchmarks where comparing the 285 to the 280x so i wasn't sure which was better.

The Corsair CX series of power supplies use poor capacitors. Go with an XFX 550W or Seasonic 520W power supply.

Ended up telling him to get a evga bronze 80+ 500w
