HELPP PLZ! Bios settings go to default after reboot

i have a xfx 680i lt motherboard rev 2
2*2gb oqz vista ready ram
running windows xp
q6600
bios: po7

i go to bios to change my fsb so i set it to linked and the ratio 1:1 and i want to overclok to 3ghz so i set the front side bus to 1333 and multiplyer to 9x but when i clik save and exit and bios is loading it shows the default fsb and then if i go to the bios settings again and the current settings are default but the settings i put show to the left of the current settings

anyhelp would be great THANKSS!!

It's one of two things: Either your settings are unstable, thus the system refuses to boot with it, or your CMOS battery is dead, which probably isn't the case.

so i should just try a diferent setting ? and see what will boot? cuz usualy when rebooting i hear two beeps then it doesn't turn on then another two beeps and it turns on

Oh yeah, that means your settings are unstable enough so your system can't boot. Usually ram, so tweak that around.

THANKK YOUU i finaly got it to work i got my procesor up to 3.2 ghz
400 mhz* 8(mulitplyer)
my fsb is 1600
and it says my dram frequency is 400 mhz ( not to sure if that's good or not)
do you think my overclok is good?

this is it the temp is around 40-45 celcuis idle and 55-60 hasn't seen it gone above 60 under stress test

Ah, that's overkill on the settings. When we say OC settings, all you need to show are the FSB, CPU speed and voltage, RAM settings, and perhaps the components.

Anyways, you could probably lower the timings on the ram a bit, perhaps 4-4-4-12. You may need to tweak the voltages though. Temps are fine, general safe limit is 65C. A G0 Q6600 can handle up to 70C safely, but I wouldn't push it since higher temps will heat other components up.

You listed like every single thing, important or not, on that post. That's overkill lol. Just list the more important ones next time.

As for your ram, if that suits you, then it's great. The lower the timings, the faster, so if that's fast enough for you, then that's cool.

The PCI-e frequency? Sure, there has been reports on people killing it because it wasn't set on 100MHz. When you increase the FSB, the PCI-e frequency goes up as well, but not by much. These days though, it's fine to have the PCI-e frequency up to 120MHz, depending on what vidcard, and there has been reports that OCing the vidcard improves a bit.

i have an 8600 gt triple x edition the pcie slots are both at 100 mhz but like does anything else change dealing with the video card that can burn it

The PCI-e voltage. Raise it and you'll kill the vidcard, quickly or slowly. I'm not sure it's an option in the newer mobos, but I do remember it was for AGP.

but someone had said to change something off auto dealing with the pci slots and put it to 33,000 mhz

yea sorry about the questions i'm new to overclocking i did some reading find out what some parts did and you helped out out alot thank you but i'm really sorry just one more thing about that pcie 33.33 mhz thing i just went to bios i can't find anything that is 33.33 mhz or that i can change that too that has to do with the pcie
the pcie spectrumm spp thingy is on auto and i can only diasble it not do anything else do you know what i have to change to 33.33
